Drugstore Haulin'

Gregg's Cheese and Onion pasties to one side, if there's one thing I really miss about living in the UK, it's a decent Boots.

Okay, yes... There are several Boots stores in the UAE but they're just not as good - in my opinion - as the ones back at home. Plus, no points, but don't get me started on that one!

It's been a while since I had a rummage through the 'drug store' and so, with a less than excited husband in tow, I went and hauled this lot.

NYX High Voltage Lipstick in No. 13 Stone - Okay yes, it's another nude and I know I recently confessed my undying love for Too Faced's Nude Beach, but this is different enough that it justifies a purchase. Putting the fact that it costs peanuts to one side, there's a lot to love about this lipstick. It's a cool-toned, brownish/mauve nude. (Too Faced Nude Beach has more pink undertones) The texture is very similar to a balm, creamy yet well-pigmented. It's not the most long-lasting lipstick, I did need to reapply this after a gin or six but for the price, I'd say it's good value for money. I'm definitely planning on picking up a couple more shades from this range.

Bourjois Radiance Reveal Concealer in 01 Ivory - This purchase was completely enabled by Laura (Buynowbloglater's) Snapchat and if it's good enough for her, then I'm pretty sure it's good enough for me! I haven't actually tried this on my face yet. Although I do like a 'brightening' concealer, I'm concerned that the shade Ivory may be too light for my current skin tone. I did swatch the next shade up from Ivory, however it was too orange-toned for my liking so we shall see how this one pans out.

Bourjois Volume 1 Seconde Mascara Ultra Black - Whilst I was faffing at the Bourjois counter, I spotted this mascara and chucked it in my basket on a whim and I'd go as far as saying it's OK. My initial issue is that the brush is enormous. I typically have quite a steady hand, yet this really wasn't the easiest to apply neatly. That being said, it is very black. I know, groundbreaking. The formula is thickening but doesn't give me the length that I prefer. Drug store wise, Maybelline Lash Sensational is better - in my opinion.

Maybelline Master Precise Liquid Eyeliner in Black - It's been a long time since I used anything other than my Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eye Liner but I started to swatch the liquid liner pens (messy job) and ended up walking away with this one. It's very black right off the bat and you don't need to build it up for an intense finish. It was the most matte of all the pens I swatched, which I like, and once dry, it doesn't budge. This is a great drug store liquid liner and I'd definitely recommend it if you're in the market for something like this.

Sephora Colorful Shimmer Eye Shadow in No.295 Fashion Blogger - Okay, technically not a drug store item but a drug store price - at least on a par with drug store eye shadow in the UAE anyway! I know what you're thinking, yes... This isn't a unique shade. I have several similar sitting in my make up drawer, (It's almost an exact dupe for Maybelline's Color Tattoo in On and On Bronze - in powder form) but I really wanted to try the single eye shadows from Sephora and thought I'd play it safe with a shade that is very much up my street. It's a medium, shimmery tapue/brown. Very pretty with an almost plum sheen to it in some lights. I love that the Sephora singles are so easy to pop out of their pots and are magnetised so you can stick them straight into a Z Palette or similar. Pigmentation wise, they deliver however, I wouldn't go in with anything other than a synthetic brush (think MAC 242) as I struggled to pick up any product on a fluffy brush.

Have you bought anything from the drug store recently? Let me know which high street beauty products you swear by so I can add them to my wishlist. Have you tried any of the products I picked up? Let me know what you think.
