New Year, New Me

On a scale of 1 to people like you should be made to fall down a well, how much did you hate that title?

After my recent absence, I wanted to 'come back' with something thought-provoking and profound, but instead you're stuck with this ramble - I apologise in advance.

I'm not a regular member of the, 'New year, New Me' crowd, I'm usually the cynical one in the corner, scrolling through the bold statuses with a raised brow and fighting the urge to tell Linda that no one gives a shit about the fact that she's going to up her Zumba game in 2017. To be honest, it's statuses like this that make me despise Facebook. The fact that some people feel the need to share a breakdown of their completely monotonous day in a 2000 word essay, armed with references and a captioned diagram. Do these people not know that Facebook is for sharing pictures of your dinner and cute animal memes? I kid you not, I witnessed pretty much this exact status the other day:

'Woke up early this morning, despite only managing 4 hours sleep last night. I'm going to be a very tired girl today. Anyway, I fancy eating lunch out this afternoon. Somewhere nice and something healthy. Got to keep up this new year's diet you know and I've got a dress to fit into this weekend. The last time I tried it on it was way too small so I'm hoping for a miracle! I'm at the gym tonight so will probably treat myself to a takeaway afterwards cause, YOLO. '

and so it droned on.

By the time I reached the end I was ready with a handful of pins to relieve myself from ever having to see such a thing again.

There's also something quite liberating about the thought of never having to know the exact number of 'syns' every Slimming World dieter has consumed on any given day. I've never done Slimming World but I feel like I could tell you the syn content of 11 of the 14 aisles in my local Waitrose.

Perhaps I should just avoid Facebook altogether.

Anyway, I digress.

This year I'm going to be one of those people.

It all started with a list of things I wanted to achieve in the new year and quickly escalated into a double-page action plan with mood boards and an Inspiration Folder on Pinterest. I won't bore you with the details, but I've more or less evaluated every aspect of my existence and decided that it needs an overhaul, from my (lack of) fitness routine to educational goals and redecorating our home. All of the things that I've been putting off starting or finding excuses for doing have been recorded and planned out so that I don't have another year like 2016 (and pretty much every year for the last few years,) where I invariably get myself into a complete and utter rut.

Am I sounding crazy yet?

Most notably I've started properly saving this year. I'm making a conscious effort to quit my frivolous spending and instead, save up for things that I really want. With a little help from some leftover Christmas money and birthday funds, I've almost hit my savings goal for a handbag that I've had my eye on for quite a while. I know to some, a handbag may seem like a frivolous purchase, but our last 'larger' purchase was a couch - and it doesn't get more responsible than that really so I feel like my adulting quota has been met.

Anyway, that's enough nonsense for today. Here's to hoping that 2017 is a wonderful one for you all and that if like me, you've set yourself some goals this year, you absolutely smash them before the year is out. Wish me luck with my overhaul...

Who knows, I might even write a Facebook status about it.
