DIY vanilla + brown sugar body scrub...

A few weeks ago, you may remember that I posted about an oats, honey and yoghurt DIY face mask. If not, then here is the link: DIY face mask

Following on from the success of that, I decided to try my hand at making an exfoliating body scrub from some simple ingredients. If you are heading on holiday or looking to soak up some sun this summer; then a good scrub is your best friend. It's a common worry that exfoliating will literally 'scrub' away your tan; however it can actually help to achieve a deeper, longer lasting tan by removing the dead skin cells on the surface of your skin; leaving soft, healthy skin behind for tanning.

Now that we have that rambly bit out of the way, here is what you will need to get cracking:

- 4 heaped tablespoons of soft brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
- 1 and 1/2 tablespoons of honey
- A few drops of vanilla essence to make it all smell lovely

Pop everything into a mixing bowl and give it a good stir. It will feel a little bit clumpy, but that's fine.

Here's the messy part! You're going to want to apply this whilst in the shower or a bath. Make sure your skin is wet and apply the mixture liberally; giving your skin a good scrub. I didn't find the sugar to be too coarse and harsh on the skin; however if you scrub well, you will get a nice pink glow!

Here's the best bit!

It's now day two post scrub and my skin is still feeling silky smooth. Result!

This recipe makes one or two good servings; however you can always increase the ingredient quantities and store it in a clean jar for future use. Or, if someone you know has a birthday coming up, why not decorate the jar with some pretty ribbon and give them this lovely, handmade gift?

Let me know if you try this out or if you have any simple scrub recipes for me to try out at home.
